Honorable Jeff Wentworth, Chair, Senate Committee on Jurisprudence
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board
SB1556 by Hinojosa (Relating to the appointment of regional presiding judges by the chief justice of the supreme court.), As Introduced
The bill would amend the Government Code relating to the appointment of regional presiding judges. The bill would provide that the chief justice of the Supreme Court, rather than the Governor, may appoint a presiding judge of one of the nine administrative judicial regions. To the extent the bill would change who may appoint a presiding judge, no significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. The bill would take effect September 1, 2007.
