LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 80TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 9, 2007

TO:
Honorable Judith Zaffirini, Chair, Senate Committee on S/C on Higher Education

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB1569 by Patrick, Dan (Relating to the automatic admission of undergraduate students to a general academic teaching institution that is a component institution of a university system.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend Texas Education Code Section 51.803, relating to the current automatic admission of high school students graduating in the top ten percent of their class, allowing university systems to establish a system-wide admission policy whereby high school students who graduate in the top 10 percent of their class would be offered admission to at least one component general academic teaching institution of the system.

There would be no significant fiscal impact on the state as this bill will not affect overall state enrollment in institutions of higher education and would not require significant changes to current enrollment processes.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
