LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 80TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 9, 2007

TO:
Honorable Judith Zaffirini, Chair, Senate Committee on S/C on Higher Education

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB1570 by Patrick, Dan (Relating to the eligibility of an undergraduate student for automatic admission to public institutions of higher education.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend Texas Education Code Section 51.803, relating to the current automatic admission of high school students graduating in the top ten percent of their class, making automatic admission to The University of Texas at Austin or Texas A&M University contingent upon the student receiving a score of at least 1,650 out of 2,400 on the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) or an equivalent score on the American College Test (ACT).

There would be no significant fiscal impact on the state as this bill will not affect overall state enrollment in institutions of higher education and would not require significant changes to current enrollment processes.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
