The bill would amend Occupations Code to require the Board of Pharmacy to conduct a study on how prescription information records containing patient-identifiable and practitioner-identifiable information are licensed, transferred, used, or sold.
The bill would require the Board of Pharmacy to submit no later than August 1, 2008 to the governor, lieutenant governor, the speaker of the house of representatives, and the appropriate standing committees of the legislature a report regarding the results of the study conducted together with any recommendation for legislation.
Based on information provided by the Board of Pharmacy, it is assumed that the agency would realize a cost of $10,000 in fiscal year 2008 for contracting with an entity to conduct the study required by the bill.
This analysis also assumes that any increased costs resulting from implementing the provisions of the bill would be offset by an increase in fee generated revenue.
