LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 80TH LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 5, 2007

TO:
Honorable Florence Shapiro, Chair, Senate Committee on Education

FROM:
John S. O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
SB1644 by Shapiro (relating to the eligibility of certain teachers to serve on the State Board of Education and the board of directors of a regional education service center. ), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Under the bill, the state teachers of the year would serve as nonvoting members of the State Board of Education for two-year terms.  The Texas Education Agency estimates that reimbursable expenses for the nonvoting members would not be significant.

The bill would also provide for regional teachers of the year to serve as nonvoting members of the boards of directors of regional education service centers.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
