Pursuant to a notice posted on May 16, 2008, the House Committee on Border & International Affairs met in a public hearing and was called to order by the chair, Representative King, Tracy O., at 1:09 p.m.
The roll was answered as follows:
Present: Representatives King, Tracy O.; Castro; Hernandez; Merritt; Pickett (5).
Absent: Representatives Frost; Hardcastle (2).
A quorum was present.
The chair named the following members to the subcommittee on Health Workforce Issues: Representative King, Tracy O., Chair; Representatives Castro and Pickett. The subcommittee will work in coordination with subcommittees from the House Committees on Appropriations and Public Health regarding a joint interim charge to study the state's current and long-range need for physicians, dentists, nurses, and other allied health and long-term care professionals; and make recommendations regarding strategies related to both geographic distribution and barriers to recruitment of high-need professions, especially for primary care providers and long-term care professionals.

At 2:01 p.m., on the motion of Representative Merritt and without objection, the meeting was adjourned subject to the call of the chair.
