Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.10, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Education was held on Thursday, May 10, 2007, in the Capitol Extension, Room E1.028, at Austin, Texas.

The chair called the meeting to order at 8:00 a.m.  The following business was transacted: 

 

The chair laid out HB 2341 and recognized the Senate sponsor, Senator Duncan, to explain the bill.  Witnesses testifying and registering on the bill are shown on the attached list.  The chair moved that the public testimony be closed; without objection, it was so ordered. 

 

The clerk called the roll, a quorum was established.

 

Senator Shapiro moved adoption of the minutes from the previous hearings held on May 1, 2007, and May 3, 2007; without objection, it was so ordered. 

 

Senator Zaffirini moved that HB 2341 be reported favorably to the Senate with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed.  The motion carried with a record vote of 5 ayes, 0 nay, 0 present not voting, and 4 absent. 

 

The chair laid out the subcommittee report on HB 3564.  Senator Zaffirini moved adoption of the subcommittee report on HB 3564; there being no objection, it was so ordered.  Senator Zaffirini moved that HB 3564 be reported favorably to the Senate with the recommendation that it do pass and be printed.  The motion carried with a record vote of 5 ayes, 0 nay, 0 present not voting, and 4 absent.  Senator Zaffirini moved that the bill be recommended for placement on the Local & Uncontested Calendar; without objection, it was so ordered.
