Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.18, a public hearing of the Standing Senate Subcommittee on Higher Education was held on Monday, May 14, 2007, in the Capitol Extension, Room E1.028, at Austin, Texas.

The chair called the meeting to order at 7:00 a.m.  The following business was transacted: 

 

The chair laid out HB 2198 by Representative Flores and recognized the Senate sponsor, Senator Janek, to explain the bill. Senator West sent up a committee amendment for HB 2198, and the chair recognized Senator Janek to explain the amendment.

 

Names of witnesses who testified and registered for, against, or on the bill are on the attached list. The chair closed public testimony.

 

HB 2198 was left pending to await a quorum.

 

The chair laid out HB 1213 by Representative Pitts and recognized the Senate sponsor, Senator Carona, to explain the bill.

The chair laid out HB 1374 by Representative Swinford and recognized the Senate sponsor, Senator Seliger, to explain the bill. Senator West sent up a committee substitute for HB 1374, and the chair recognized Senator Seliger to explain the difference between the committee substitute and the House bill as filed.

The chair laid out HB 2639 by Representative Smithee and recognized the Senate sponsor, Senator Duncan, to explain the bill. Senator West sent up a committee substitute for HB 2639, and the chair recognized Senator Duncan to explain the difference between the committee substitute and the House bill as filed.

 

Upon arrival of a quorum, Senator West moved adoption of the committee substitute for          HB 2639. The motion was adopted by unanimous consent.
