Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Finance was held on Monday, January 29, 2007, in the Capitol Extension, Room E1.036, at Austin, Texas.

The chair called the meeting to order at 10:00 a.m.  There being a quorum present, the following business was transacted: 

 

The chair made introductory remarks and welcomed Committee members to the Senate Finance Committee.  The chair introduced Committee staff, and then recognized each Committee member for opening remarks, and to introduce their respective staff.

 

The chair laid out the proposed Committee Rules.  Senator Zaffirini moved to adopt the rules, and Senator West seconded the motion.  There being no objection, the rules were adopted by unanimous consent.

 

 

 

Senator Zaffirini assumed the chair. 

 

The chair laid out SB 1 and recognized the author, Senator Ogden, to explain the bill. 

The Legislative Budget Board introduced staff, and provided testimony regarding an Overview of Budget Recommendations.  Witnesses testifying and registering on the bill are shown on the attached list. 

 

Senator Ogden moved that SB 1 be left pending; without objection, it was so ordered. 

 

Senator Ogden resumed the chair. 

 

The chair laid out the tentative Committee schedule, and workgroup assignments.

 

There being no further business, at 11:30 a.m. Senator Ogden moved that the Committee stand recessed until 8:00 a.m., January 30, 2007.  Without objection, it was so ordered.
