Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Government Organization was held on Monday, October 27, 2008, in the Betty King Committee Hearing Room, 2E.20, at Austin, Texas.

The chair called the meeting to order at 9:05 a.m.  The following business was transacted: 

 

The Chair called Panel 1 to provide testimony regarding the interim charge relating to criminal background check requirements across Texas health and human services, law enforcement, and education agencies, as well as other licensed professionals. See attached list.

 

The Chair called Panel 2 to provide testimony regarding the interim charge relating to the implementation of legislation addressed by the Government Organization Committee, 80th Legislature, Regular Session, and make recommendations for any legislation needed to improve, enhance, and/or complete implementation. See attached list.

 

Senator Watson joined the Chair and Vice-Chair on the dais.

 

The Chair called Panel 3 to provide testimony regarding the interim charge relating to developing a new master-planned campus to serve the needs of the state government and provide for future growth. See attached list.

 

Senator Watson left the dais.

 

The Chair called Panel 4 to provide testimony regarding the interim charge relating to the economic and security costs and benefits, both short-term and long-term, of adoption of an open document format for state-created documents. See attached list.

 

The Chair called individuals to provide public testimony on the interim charge relating to the economic and security costs and benefits, both short-term and long-term, of adoption of an open document format for state-created documents. See attached list.

 

 

There being no further business, at 12:19 p.m. Senator Ellis moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of the chair.  Without objection, it was so ordered.
