Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Criminal Justice was held on Tuesday, January 30, 2007, in the Capitol Extension, Room E1.036, at Austin, Texas.

Senator Whitmire, the chair of the Senate Criminal Justice Committee, called the meeting to order at 2:15 p.m.  There being a quorum present, the following business was transacted: 

 

Representative Madden, chair of the House Committee on Corrections, called the committee to order.

 

Senator Whitmire and Representative Madden shared presiding duties.

 

Senator Whitmire laid out the Committee Rules for the Senate Criminal Justice Committee. Senator Seliger moved their adoption, Senator Hinojosa second the motion.  The Committee Rules were adopted by a vote of 5 ayes and 0 nays.

 

Invited witnesses testifying on the criminal justice system are shown on the attached list. 

 

There being no further business, at 5:45 p.m. Senator Whitmire moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of the chair.  Without objection, it was so ordered. 

 

Representative Madden adjourned the House Committee on Corrections at 5:45 p.m.
