Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Transportation and Homeland Security was held on Wednesday, July 9, 2008, in the Main Auditorium of the El Paso Public Library at El Paso, Texas.

The chair called the meeting to order at 8:00 a.m. There being a quorum present, the following business was transacted:
The Committee received public and invited testimony related to interim study charges on illegal immigration, transnational gangs and tamper-proof identification. Witnesses are shown on the attached list.
There being no further business, at 1:05 p.m. Senator Nichols moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of the chair. Without objection, it was so ordered.
