Pursuant to a notice posted in accordance with Senate Rule 11.18, a public hearing of the Senate Committee on Veteran Affairs & Military Installations was held on Tuesday, September 16, 2008, in the Betty King Committee Hearing Room, 2E.20, at Austin, Texas.

The Chair called the meeting to order at 8:35 a.m.  There being a quorum present, the following business was transacted: 

 

The Chair recognized the Honorable Tom Pauken, Chair of the Texas Workforce Commission, to lead the Committee in the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

The Chair made opening remarks and welcomed the Committee members and audience present.   The Chair recognized Brent Turner, new to the Committee staff.

 

The Chair called members of the public to provide invited testimony on the following interim committee charges:

 

Examine any existing state veteran hiring and procurement preferences and make recommendations for improving and enhancing those programs to increase efficiencies and maximize funding.

 

Address any unfinished business from previously scheduled hearings.

 

There being no further business, at 11:30 a.m. Senator Van de Putte moved that the Committee stand adjourned subject to the call of the Chair.  Without objection, it was so ordered.
