Pursuant to HCR 70, a public hearing of the Select Committee on Public School Accountability was held on Wednesday, August 20, 2008, in Lubbock, Texas.

Senator Shapiro called the meeting to order at 10:18 a.m.  The following business was transacted: 

 

The Chair recognized the following persons to make opening remarks:  Bob Craig, State Board of Education member; Wayne Havens, Superintendent of Lubbock ISD;  Gordon Wilkerson, President, Lubbock ISD Board of Trustees; Steve Massengale, Member, Lubbock ISD Board of Trustees;  and State Representative, Joe Heflin.

 

At 11:20 a.m. Representative Eissler assumed the chair.

 

At 11:21 a.m. a quorum was established.

 

Representative Patrick moved adoption of the minutes from the previous hearings held on August 4, 2008, and July 14, 2008; without objection, it was so ordered. 

 

At 12:39 p.m. Representative Eissler opened public testimony.  Witnesses testifying and registering are shown on the attached list.

 

The chair moved that the public testimony be closed; without objection, it was so ordered. 

 

There being no further business, at 1:13 p.m. Representative Eissler moved that the Committee stand recessed subject to the call of the chair.  Without objection, it was so ordered.
