R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Bringing a triumphant close to an outstanding
  season, Tommy Sikes of Midland College won the 2009 National Junior
  College Athletic Association Division I men's golf championship on
  May 22 in Huntsville, Alabama; and
         WHEREAS, As the Western Junior College Athletic Conference
  champion with four recent tournament victories, Mr. Sikes entered
  the national championship competition with momentum on his side;
  and
         WHEREAS, This highly skilled golfer began the last day of the
  tournament tied for the lead, but he was able to emerge as the
  winner with a final round score of 69, which was highlighted by an
  eagle on the 15th hole and a strong finish with a birdie on the 18th;
  and
         WHEREAS, His four-day total of 285 was three under par,
  especially impressive on the extremely challenging Robert Trent
  Jones Golf Trail at Hampton Cove course; he finished three strokes
  ahead of his nearest challenger, and his victory gave Midland
  College, led by head coach Delnor Poss, its second consecutive
  individual national champion; Mr. Sikes will continue his
  collegiate golf career next year at Southeastern Louisiana
  University; and
         WHEREAS, Winning a national championship is the culmination
  of countless hours of hard work and dedication, and Tommy Sikes may
  indeed reflect with pride on his exceptional accomplishment; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Tommy Sikes on
  winning the 2009 NJCAA Division I men's golf championship and
  extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Sikes as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
