R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Nathaniel Quarterman is retiring as director of the |
|
Correctional Institutions Division of the Texas Department of |
|
Criminal Justice after a quarter-century of exemplary public |
|
service; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Quarterman joined the Department of Criminal |
|
Justice as a correctional officer in 1984; he rose through the |
|
security ranks and joined the newly formed State Jail Division in |
|
1995 as the first senior warden at the Buster Cole State Jail in |
|
Bonham; three years later, he was promoted to the State Jail |
|
headquarters in Austin, and after serving as assistant director of |
|
security and deputy director, he became the director of the State |
|
Jail Division in September 2001; and |
|
WHEREAS, Following the merger of the Institutional, |
|
Operations, Private Facilities, and State Jail Divisions, Mr. |
|
Quarterman was named deputy director of Prison and Jail Management |
|
within the Correctional Institutions Division in 2003; this highly |
|
respected professional, who holds a bachelor's degree in criminal |
|
justice and a master's degree in strategic leadership, was |
|
appointed director of CID in 2006, assuming oversight of 112 prison |
|
units and more than 150,000 offenders; demonstrating his extensive |
|
knowledge and experience in the field of operations, he has |
|
skillfully guided a staff of approximately 24,000; and |
|
WHEREAS, Throughout his career with the criminal justice |
|
department, Nathaniel Quarterman has brought to his |
|
responsibilities a steadfast commitment to excellence, adhering to |
|
the highest standards of correctional practice, and his outstanding |
|
leadership has greatly benefited the Correctional Institutions |
|
Division; he may indeed reflect with pride on his achievements as he |
|
prepares to embark on an exciting new chapter in his life; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Nathaniel |
|
Quarterman on his retirement as director of the Correctional |
|
Institutions Division of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice |
|
and that he be extended sincere best wishes for the future; and, be |
|
it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Quarterman as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
