R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, In recognition of his exemplary service to his |
|
|
fellow citizens, Deputy Chief Ubaldo Perez of the Edinburg |
|
|
Volunteer Fire Department has been named the 2009 Firefighter of |
|
|
the Year by the State Firemen's and Fire Marshals' Association of |
|
|
Texas; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Each year, the SFFMA presents this prestigious award |
|
|
to a Texas firefighter for acts of bravery, leadership ability, or |
|
|
contributions to the community, or for the introduction of |
|
|
innovative training methods; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Fulfilling a childhood dream, Ubaldo Perez first |
|
|
gained familiarity with the Edinburg VFD as a member of its fire |
|
|
service youth program; he later worked with the department as a |
|
|
volunteer firefighter; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, After serving for a time as a firefighter in |
|
|
McAllen, Mr. Perez returned to the Edinburg department as deputy |
|
|
chief in 2001; in addition to overseeing the training of all |
|
|
full-time and volunteer firefighters in Edinburg, he coordinates |
|
|
firefighter training for the SFFMA's Rio Grande Valley district; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, This outstanding public servant has also worked to |
|
|
increase fire safety awareness in his community, performing as a |
|
|
clown with a team that educates children about fire and its dangers; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, For nearly a quarter century, Deputy Chief Perez has |
|
|
earned the respect of his colleagues and peers for his |
|
|
professionalism, commitment to excellence, and dedication to |
|
|
public safety, and he may indeed take great pride in receiving this |
|
|
special honor; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Representative Aaron Peña has justly recognized |
|
|
Deputy Chief Ubaldo Perez by authoring this resolution in his |
|
|
behalf during the 81st Texas Legislature, 1st Called Session; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
|
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Deputy Chief |
|
|
Ubaldo Perez on his selection as the 2009 Firefighter of the Year by |
|
|
the State Firemen's and Fire Marshals' Association of Texas and |
|
|
extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success and |
|
|
happiness; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Deputy Chief Perez as an expression of high regard by |
|
|
the Texas House of Representatives. |
