R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Barbara Smith Mackey was named the Woman of the Year |
|
at the Gladewater Chamber of Commerce annual banquet in April 2009; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, A Gladewater native, Mrs. Mackey has been an |
|
educator for more than two decades and has taught in the Gilmer, |
|
Arp, and Union Grove Independent School Districts; through the |
|
years, she has been involved in a number of civic endeavors, and in |
|
April 2008, she created an exhibit at the East Texas Museum at |
|
Gladewater that pays tribute to professional athletes with ties to |
|
the region; she dedicated the collection to her late husband, Dee |
|
Mackey, who played professional football during the 1960s; and |
|
WHEREAS, This engaged citizen also participates in the |
|
Gladewater Garden Club, Gladewater Former Students Association, |
|
and chamber of commerce, and she takes great pleasure in spending |
|
time with her three children and seven grandchildren; and |
|
WHEREAS, Barbara Mackey has given freely of her time and |
|
talents for the benefit of her community, and she has garnered the |
|
lasting respect and appreciation of her fellow residents; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Barbara Smith |
|
Mackey on being named the Woman of the Year by the Gladewater |
|
Chamber of Commerce and extend to her sincere best wishes for |
|
continued success and happiness; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mrs. Mackey as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
