R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Chair of the board and chief executive officer of
  Texas Bank and Trust, Rogers Pope, Sr., was honored by the Texas
  Bankers Association, which presented him with the 50-Year Banker
  Award in May 2009; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Pope began his notable career half a century ago
  as a management trainee at the First National Bank in Dallas; he
  later was vice president and director of the First State Bank of
  Overton and worked for the international accounting firm of Peat,
  Marwick, Mitchell & Company as a certified public accountant before
  joining Longview Bank and Trust as a vice president and commercial
  loan officer in 1969; he became president of the bank in 1970, and
  in 1975 he was named chair; and
         WHEREAS, A native of Overton, Mr. Pope graduated first in his
  class from Baylor University and summa cum laude from Southern
  Methodist University, where he earned his MBA; he went on to
  graduate with distinction from the Southwest Graduate School of
  Banking; and
         WHEREAS, In addition to his responsibilities at Texas Bank
  and Trust, Mr. Pope is chair of the board of First State Bank of Van,
  Lindale State Bank, and First State Bank of Overton; he has also
  served on the board of TIB, the Independent Bankers Bank, in Dallas;
  and
         WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan has served on the board of
  regents of Baylor University and on the board of trustees of
  LeTourneau University, where he was chair of the board for three
  terms; he currently chairs the board of the Bruce McMillan
  Foundation, a philanthropic organization in Overton; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Pope has further served as president of the
  Longview Partnership and the Longview Rotary Club; his
  contributions have been honored with the Chairman's Award from the
  Longview Partnership, the Paul Harris Award from the Rotary Club,
  the Henry O. Gossett Award from LeTourneau University, and the East
  Texas Heritage Award; and
         WHEREAS, For five decades, Rogers Pope has served his
  industry and community with dedication and integrity, and it is a
  pleasure to honor him on his latest achievement; now, therefore, be
  it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Rogers Pope,
  Sr., on earning the 50-Year Banker Award from the Texas Bankers
  Association and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Pope as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
