R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Pastor John A. Hall of San Antonio died on April 18, |
|
2009, leaving his circle of family and friends with treasured |
|
memories of time spent in his company; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born in Cuero on July 18, 1921, to Reverend and Mrs. |
|
C. H. Hall, John Hall served his country with distinction during |
|
World War II as a member of the U.S. Army's 304th Aviation Squadron |
|
in the Pacific theater; and |
|
WHEREAS, Returning stateside after the war, he earned a |
|
bachelor's degree from St. Mary's University and went on to graduate |
|
from Guadalupe Theological College with his doctoral degree in |
|
divinity; he served as an instructor at that institution for more |
|
than four decades and held the post of dean of student affairs; and |
|
WHEREAS, After leading the congregation of Friendship |
|
Baptist Church in Luling, Pastor Hall was pastor of Trinity |
|
Missionary Baptist Church in San Antonio from 1958 to 2008, and he |
|
was honored with the title pastor emeritus; a mentor to many young |
|
ministers, he was closely associated with the San Antonio |
|
Comprehensive Nutrition Project, a drug rehabilitation program |
|
named Genesis, the creation of radio, television, and video |
|
ministries, and the establishment of a daily prayer vigil at |
|
Trinity that has operated continuously since its inception in 1978; |
|
his professional affiliations included the Baptist Ministers Union |
|
of San Antonio and the National Baptist Convention of America; and |
|
WHEREAS, With his wife, the former Lucille Navarro, Pastor |
|
Hall shared 30 years of marriage until the time of her passing; |
|
fortunate to find love a second time, he and his wife, Juanita, |
|
together enjoyed a rewarding relationship and many happy times |
|
together; and |
|
WHEREAS, Pastor Hall was truly a blessing in the lives of |
|
countless people, and he will be deeply missed by all those who were |
|
fortunate enough to share in his love and friendship; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory |
|
of Pastor John A. Hall and extend sincere sympathy to the members of |
|
his family: to his wife, Juanita Hall; to his daughter, Mary Ellen |
|
Hall Davis; to his granddaughter, Sherice Williams; to his |
|
great-granddaughter, Thelma; and to his other relatives and |
|
friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of John Hall. |
