R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Danbury High School baseball team captured the
  University Interscholastic League 2A state championship on June 12,
  2009, in its first appearance at the state tournament; and
         WHEREAS, Under the tutelage of head coach Steve David, the
  Panthers first made their mark during the regular season, compiling
  an undefeated 10-0 record against district opponents to claim the
  29-2A title; and
         WHEREAS, Danbury began its march through the playoffs by
  besting Kaufer High and then triumphed in its series showdowns
  against both Refugio and Rogers High Schools without losing a
  single game; a win over Bishop earned the Panthers the Region 4
  title and a trip to Austin for the state tournament; and
         WHEREAS, In its semifinal game, the team defeated Ponder High
  School 8-2, which set the stage for the 2A title contest; taking the
  field against Holliday High, the Panthers fell behind early but
  staged a dramatic come-from-behind rally to register a 6-5 win in a
  game that the Danbury players and fans will always remember; and
         WHEREAS, This remarkable team is the first baseball squad
  from Danbury High to claim a state championship, and it finished the
  season with a record of 32 wins and just 5 losses; and
         WHEREAS, Achieving their season-long goal required each of
  the team's talented athletes to perform at the top of his game, and
  this triumph is an apt reflection of their dedication and
  competitive spirit and comes as a result of many hours of hard work
  and training; and
         WHEREAS, These young champions have distinguished themselves
  as formidable competitors, and in proving Danbury the finest 2A
  team in Texas, they have brought a great deal of pride and
  recognition to their school and their community; now, therefore, be
  it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate the Danbury
  High School baseball team for capturing the University
  Interscholastic League 2A state championship and extend to the
  players, coaches, and staff sincere best wishes for continued
  success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the Danbury Panthers as an expression of high regard by
  the Texas House of Representatives.
