R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The softball team of Smithson Valley High School in
  Spring Branch reached the pinnacle of success by winning the 2009
  University Interscholastic League 5A state championship with a
  victory in the June 6 title game at Red McCombs Field in Austin; and
         WHEREAS, After advancing through the playoffs to reach the
  state tournament, the Rangers claimed the 5A crown in a pair of
  hard-fought games, winning both their semifinal game against Plano
  East High School and their championship matchup over Pearland High
  School by 1-0 scores; the team compiled an overall record of 30-5
  and concluded the season with a thrilling string of 21 straight
  games without a defeat; and
         WHEREAS, The 2009 championship continues Smithson Valley's
  tradition of excellence in softball competition; the Rangers have
  taken 12 consecutive district titles and have won 116 games in a row
  against district opponents, an astonishing run that extends all the
  way back to 2002; and
         WHEREAS, Succeeding with a true team effort, Smithson Valley
  received essential contributions from each member of the roster:
  Paige Hamilton, Samantha Ohlenbusch, Katie Repole, Ashley Freeman,
  Maris Medina, Bailey Watts, Marina Northup, Cassie Tysarczyk,
  Kayla Booker, Michelle Sorenson, Katrina Massey, and Whitney
  Repole; these determined athletes were guided by head coach Wayne
  Daigle and assistant coaches Lisa Daigle and Ted Constanzo; and
         WHEREAS, The 2009 Rangers put together an unforgettable
  season that distinguished them as one of the finest high school
  softball teams in the Lone Star State, and their triumph will be a
  continuing source of pride for the players and their many
  enthusiastic supporters for years to come; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature, 1st Called Session hereby recognize that the Smithson
  Valley High School softball team be congratulated on winning the
  2009 University Interscholastic League 5A state championship and
  that the athletes and coaches be extended sincere best wishes for
  continued achievement.
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
