H.R. No. 70
 
 
 
R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The softball team from Canyon High School in New
  Braunfels won the 2009 University Interscholastic League 4A state
  championship with a 4-2 victory over Angleton High School on June 6
  in Austin; and
         WHEREAS, In capturing the second state team title in Canyon
  High history, the Cougarettes capped a phenomenal season in which
  they won their final 20 games to post an overall record of 38 wins
  and just 3 defeats; and
         WHEREAS, En route to the championship, the Cougarettes
  received valuable contributions from each member of the roster:
  Aimee Corona, Tara Key, Megan McKinney, Jasmine Ramirez, Carly
  Covington, Chelsey Fisher, Aby Kester, Mandy Ogle, Stephanie Peace,
  Kailee Vrana, Becca Wall, Sarah Crocket, Sara Mireles, and Brittany
  Gomez; and
         WHEREAS, This talented squad was ably guided by head coach
  Kevin Randle and assistant coaches Terry Tennell and Jared Jung;
  vital support was also provided by trainers Tara Farr and Jason
  Maxwell, athletic director Les Davis, assistant athletic director
  Heather Sanders, principal Brad Brown, and Comal Independent School
  District superintendent Dr. Marc Walker and athletic director Jim
  Rodrigue; and
         WHEREAS, With their hard work and commitment to excellence,
  the dedicated student-athletes on the Canyon High softball team
  have earned the respect and admiration of their many supporters,
  and the memory of their significant achievement will be a source of
  pride in the local community for years to come; now, therefore, be
  it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate the Canyon
  High School Cougarettes softball team on winning the 2009 UIL 4A
  state championship and extend to the players, coaches, and staff
  sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
