R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The softball team from Canyon High School in New |
|
|
Braunfels won the 2009 University Interscholastic League 4A state |
|
|
championship with a 4-2 victory over Angleton High School on June 6 |
|
|
in Austin; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In capturing the second state team title in Canyon |
|
|
High history, the Cougarettes capped a phenomenal season in which |
|
|
they won their final 20 games to post an overall record of 38 wins |
|
|
and just 3 defeats; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, En route to the championship, the Cougarettes |
|
|
received valuable contributions from each member of the roster: |
|
|
Aimee Corona, Tara Key, Megan McKinney, Jasmine Ramirez, Carly |
|
|
Covington, Chelsey Fisher, Aby Kester, Mandy Ogle, Stephanie Peace, |
|
|
Kailee Vrana, Becca Wall, Sarah Crocket, Sara Mireles, and Brittany |
|
|
Gomez; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, This talented squad was ably guided by head coach |
|
|
Kevin Randle and assistant coaches Terry Tennell and Jared Jung; |
|
|
vital support was also provided by trainers Tara Farr and Jason |
|
|
Maxwell, athletic director Les Davis, assistant athletic director |
|
|
Heather Sanders, principal Brad Brown, and Comal Independent School |
|
|
District superintendent Dr. Marc Walker and athletic director Jim |
|
|
Rodrigue; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, With their hard work and commitment to excellence, |
|
|
the dedicated student-athletes on the Canyon High softball team |
|
|
have earned the respect and admiration of their many supporters, |
|
|
and the memory of their significant achievement will be a source of |
|
|
pride in the local community for years to come; now, therefore, be |
|
|
it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
|
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate the Canyon |
|
|
High School Cougarettes softball team on winning the 2009 UIL 4A |
|
|
state championship and extend to the players, coaches, and staff |
|
|
sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
