R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Countless lives were touched by the kindness and
  boundless generosity of Eleanor Hall "Puddie" Pitcock of Houston,
  who passed away on May 14, 2009; and
         WHEREAS, Raised in Dallas, Puddie Pitcock was the
  valedictorian of her Sunset High School graduating class; she moved
  to Houston in 1948 and earned a bachelor's degree in history from
  Rice University; and
         WHEREAS, A philanthropist who did not ask for recognition,
  Mrs. Pitcock anonymously donated numerous religious sculptures and
  works of art to churches and cathedrals across the country, and one
  such gift was presented to Mikhail Gorbachev for his role in ending
  the Cold War; and
         WHEREAS, Mrs. Pitcock also found ways to give to the homeless
  individuals in her community, and in demonstrating the utmost
  compassion and sensitivity, she became known as the "Angel of the
  Streets"; she helped cover medical and dental expenses for those in
  need, and she served on the board of Covenant House and supported
  numerous other organizations, including the Salvation Army, Star of
  Hope, and SEARCH Homeless Services; moreover, Mrs. Pitcock provided
  coats to local newspaper vendors during the holidays and was
  referred to on news programs as "The Coat Lady"; and
         WHEREAS, In all of her endeavors, Mrs. Pitcock enjoyed the
  love and support of her husband, Doug, and the couple shared many
  rewarding years together, celebrating their 58th wedding
  anniversary in January 2009; and
         WHEREAS, A woman of strong faith, Puddie Pitcock inspired
  countless individuals with her selfless acts and her caring nature,
  and she will long be remembered with great admiration and
  affection; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of
  Eleanor Hall Pitcock and extend sincere sympathy to the members of
  her family: to her husband, James D. Pitcock, Jr.; to her son, James
  D. Pitcock III; and to her other relatives and friends; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Eleanor
  Hall Pitcock.
