R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Mavis De La Rosa is retiring from the Mineola |
|
|
Independent School District in 2009, drawing to a close an |
|
|
exemplary career in education that has spanned more than four |
|
|
decades; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A native of Grand Saline, Dr. De La Rosa graduated |
|
|
from Grand Saline High School and attended Tyler Junior College; |
|
|
she went on to earn a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in |
|
|
counseling at East Texas State University, and she later earned a |
|
|
doctorate in reading and mid-management; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Dr. De La Rosa began her 42-year career in education |
|
|
by practice teaching at East Ward Elementary School in Mineola; she |
|
|
taught for four years in Grand Saline and then returned to the |
|
|
Mineola ISD; over the years, she distinguished herself as an |
|
|
elementary school teacher, middle school counselor, and curriculum |
|
|
director, earning the respect and admiration of her colleagues; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, For 19 years, Dr. De La Rosa was principal of Mineola |
|
|
Primary School, and more recently she has been director of testing |
|
|
and special programming at Mineola High School; a number of her |
|
|
former students are now teachers in the Mineola district, and her |
|
|
two sons were both valedictorians at Mineola High School; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Dr. De La Rosa's dedication, professionalism, and |
|
|
commitment to her students greatly benefited the community of |
|
|
Mineola, and she may indeed reflect with pride on a career well |
|
|
spent as she embarks on the next exciting chapter of her life; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas |
|
|
Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby congratulate Dr. Mavis De |
|
|
La Rosa on her retirement from the Mineola Independent School |
|
|
District and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued |
|
|
happiness; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Dr. De La Rosa as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
