R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Family and friends mourn the loss of Dan Peacock of
  Mineola, who died on June 16, 2009, at the age of 85; and
         WHEREAS, Born in 1924 in Hawkins to C. A. and Ella Black
  Peacock, Dan Peacock attended Mineola schools and graduated at the
  age of 19 from North Texas State, where he received a triple major
  in chemistry, math, and biology; he honorably served his country in
  the United States Navy during World War II; and
         WHEREAS, Known by all as a "fine gentleman", Mr. Peacock was
  dedicated to his nation, his state, and his community; he served on
  the boards of directors for multiple community organizations,
  including the Andrews Center, the Mineola Civic Center, the Mineola
  Memorial Library, the Mineola Industrial Foundation, and the
  Literacy Council; and
         WHEREAS, Passionate about education, Mr. Peacock taught
  chemistry at Tarleton State University and Texas A&M University
  before returning to Mineola in the mid-1950s; he spent years on the
  Mineola ISD Board of Trustees leaving a legacy that continues to
  enrich the lives of area students; Mr. Peacock spent his later
  years reading to children at the local library, instilling in them a
  passion for reading and learning; and
         WHEREAS, Truly a blessing to his community, Dan Peacock
  received countless awards during his life, being named by the
  Mineola Chamber of Commerce as Man of the Year in 1960, Humanitarian
  of the Year in 1987, as well as the Distinguished Lifetime
  Achievement Award in 1996; and
         WHEREAS, Preceded in death by his loving parents, his
  brothers, Roy and Virgil, and his sister Mildred Peppeard,
  Mr. Peacock will be missed by all who knew him; now, therefore, be
  it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas
  Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of
  Dan Peacock and extend sincere condolences to his sisters, Margaret
  Peacock Steel of Mineola and Mary Peacock Simms of Tyler; and to his
  other relatives and countless friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Dan Peacock
  of Mineola.
