SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 16
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Elbert "Lum" Wright, who was inducted into the Rio
  Grande Valley Sports Hall of Fame on June 19, 2009; and
 
         WHEREAS, Over the course of his legendary 45-year career,
  Coach Wright amassed a record of 361-126-17 and was honored with
  seven Coach of the Year awards; he took teams from Mission and
  Edcouch-Elsa to playoff berths in the 1950s and 1960s before
  moving to Mississippi, where he continued to produce successful
  teams; and
 
         WHEREAS, Mindful of the important role sports play in the
  development of young people, Coach Wright taught his players many
  important lessons, including the importance of doing their best
  whether they won or lost in competition; and
 
         WHEREAS, Coach Wright taught his players through
  discipline and dedication; he was able to bring out the best in
  his players, and he inspired his teams to excel in life as well as
  in athletic competition; now, therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
  Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Elbert "Lum"
  Wright on his outstanding achievements as a coach and extend to
  him congratulations on being inducted into the Rio Grande Valley
  Sports Hall of Fame; and, be it further
 
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
