SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 27
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Gabriella Ahbee Orton for her outstanding performance
  in the National Braille Challenge, which was held recently in
  California; and
 
         WHEREAS, Ahbee won first place in her age division at the
  National Braille Challenge; she was one of 56 blind and visually
  impaired students chosen from 660 applicants nationwide to
  participate in the competition; and
 
         WHEREAS, Students competed in events that required them to
  transcribe, type, and read Braille; they also demonstrated
  skills in reading comprehension and spelling; and
 
         WHEREAS, Ahbee has been blind since birth and is a third
  grade student at Deer Creek Elementary School in the Crowley
  Independent School District; and
 
         WHEREAS, A talented and industrious student, Ahbee strives
  for excellence in all of her endeavors; a role model for all young
  Texas students, she is a source of much pride to her parents, her
  school, and her community; now, therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
  Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend Gabriella Ahbee
  Orton on her skills and exceptional accomplishments and extend
  congratulations to her on winning first place in the National
  Braille Challenge; and, be it further
 
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
  honor of Ahbee Orton.
