SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 33
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Fred Kerwin Fox
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas pays tribute to
  the life of Fred Kerwin Fox of Austin, a decorated World War II
  veteran and longtime leader in the oil and gas industry, who died
  on June 21, 2008; and
 
         WHEREAS, Fred Kerwin Fox was born in Houston on April 3,
  1926, to Fred Fox, Jr., and Marie Potier Fox; after the death of
  his mother in 1935 and his father in 1939, he attended Allen
  Military Academy in Bryan and served in the Reserve Officers'
  Training Corps; and
 
         WHEREAS, He joined the United States Marine Corps at the
  age of 17 and served in the South Pacific during World War II; he
  was wounded fighting the Japanese on the island of Peleliu and
  was hospitalized for two years and awarded the Navy Cross and a
  Purple Heart; he was a proud veteran and returned to the island
  many times, and he worked diligently to promote better relations
  between Micronesia and the United States; and
 
         WHEREAS, After his military service, Fred worked for the
  Halliburton company as a roughneck cleaning drill collars and
  other oil field equipment; he would later invent and develop the
  spiral drill collar and other equipment that proved valuable in
  the oil and gas industry worldwide; and
 
         WHEREAS, He studied petroleum engineering at The
  University of Texas under the GI Bill, earning bachelor's and
  master's degrees in 1949 and 1951; he was honored as a
  Distinguished Engineering Graduate in 1990; and
 
         WHEREAS, Fred became an independent oil operator and
  served as a general partner in a gas production company; he was
  chief executive officer and chairman of the board of directors of
  Engineering Enterprises, Incorporated; a highly respected leader
  in the oil and gas industry, he obtained some 38 patents, wrote
  numerous articles for professional publications, and presented
  papers and lectures for various technical conferences and
  organizations around the world; and
 
         WHEREAS, Fred was married to Lillian Hand Fox and the late
  Patricia Lynch Fox, and he was the father of three sons, Timothy,
  Casey, and Jesse; a greatly admired and respected gentleman, he
  was renowned for his integrity, his intellect, and his pleasant
  disposition, and he will long be remembered for his loyalty and
  service to his country and his leadership in his profession; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 81st
  Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby honor the memory of Fred
  Kerwin Fox; and, be it further
 
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared to
  commemorate his life, and that when the Senate adjourns this day,
  it do so in memory of Fred Kerwin Fox.
