Amend HB 148 (Senate committee printing) by inserting the 
following appropriately numbered SECTION to the bill and 
renumbering subsequent SECTIONS of the bill accordingly:
	SECTION ____.  Chapter 42, Civil Practice and Remedies Code, 
is amended by adding Section 42.0031 to read as follows:
	Sec. 42.0031.  ENFORCEABILITY OF CERTAIN SETTLEMENT 
AGREEMENTS.  (a)  Notwithstanding Section 42.002(c), this section 
applies to any agreement to settle a claim that arises from bodily 
injury or death.
	(b)  A settlement agreement described by Subsection (a) may 
be voided by the injured party until the expiration of the seventh 
day after the date the agreement is entered into unless the claimant 
is represented by counsel at the time the claimant enters into the 
agreement.  An injured party who is not represented by counsel must 
be informed of the party's option to void the agreement at the time 
of settlement.
