Amend CSSB 1830 (committee printing) as follows:                             
	(1)  In SECTION 1 of the bill, in amended Section 12.101(b), 
Education Code (page 1, line 15), between "Education" and "may 
grant", insert ", after thoroughly investigating and evaluating an 
applicant,".
	(2)  In SECTION 1 of the bill, in amended Section 12.101(b), 
Education Code (page 1, line 17), between "governing," and "and 
operational", insert "curriculum development and implementation,".
	(3)  Between SECTIONS 7 and 8 of the bill (page 4, between 
lines 37 and 38), insert the following appropriately numbered 
SECTION into the bill and renumber subsequent SECTIONS of the bill 
accordingly:
	SECTION ____.  Section 12.118(a), Education Code, is amended 
to read as follows:
	(a)  The commissioner shall designate an impartial 
organization with experience in evaluating school choice programs 
to conduct, under the supervision of the commissioner, an annual 
evaluation of open-enrollment charter schools.
