AUTHOR'S / SPONSOR'S STATEMENT OF INTENT
Local jurisdictions, organizations, and activists are in need of new mechanisms to provide affordable housing. While public improvement district have effectively helped regions address a number of issues, they cannot currently be used to support affordable housing. Texas currently allows the use of public improvement districts to help pay for landscaping, libraries, parking, garages, water and drainage improvements, and many other projects.
H.B. 1029 relates to the development, rehabilitation, or expansion of affordable housing in a public improvement district established by a county or municipality.
