AUTHOR'S / SPONSOR'S STATEMENT OF INTENT
Some Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) employees receive hazardous duty pay that is lower than that received by correctional officers. Correctional officers receive $12 for each 12-month period of lifetime service credit accrued. Other employees receive $10 for the same period of service.
As proposed, S.B. 2304 allows all employees of TDCJ to receive the lesser of $12 for each 12-month period of lifetime service credit accrued or $300 per month for hazardous duty pay.
RULEMAKING AUTHORITY
This bill does not expressly grant any additional rulemaking authority to a state officer, institution, or agency.
SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS
SECTION 1. Amends Section 659.305, Government Code, by amending Subsection (h), to provide that the amount of hazardous duty pay for a particular month for a full-time employee, rather than full-time correctional officer, employed by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice is the lesser of $12 for each 12-month period of lifetime service credit accrued by the employee or $300.
SECTION 2. Effective date: September 1, 2009.
