A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
relating to the use of public funds to print certain public |
|
documents in a language other than English and other bilingual |
|
requirements. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Chapter 2051, Government Code, is amended by |
|
adding Subchapter D to read as follows: |
|
SUBCHAPTER D. LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS FOR STATE DOCUMENTS |
|
Sec. 2051.076. USE OF PUBLIC MONEY TO PRINT PUBLIC |
|
DOCUMENTS IN LANGUAGE OTHER THAN ENGLISH. (a) In this section, |
|
"state agency" means a board, commission, department, office, |
|
institution, including an institution of higher education as |
|
defined by Section 61.003, Education Code, or other agency in the |
|
executive branch of the state government. |
|
(b) Except as provided by Subsection (c), a state agency may |
|
not use public money to print a public document in a language other |
|
than English. |
|
(c) This section does not apply to: |
|
(1) a historical document originally printed in a |
|
language other than English; or |
|
(2) a document required under federal law or by the |
|
federal government to be printed in a language other than English. |
|
SECTION 2. Chapter 272, Election Code, is repealed. |
|
SECTION 3. The change in law made by this Act applies only |
|
to a document printed by a state agency on or after the effective |
|
date of this Act. |
|
SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
