| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. The heading to Subchapter M, Chapter 1701, | ||
| Occupations Code, is amended to read as follows: | ||
| SUBCHAPTER M. VISITING RESOURCE OFFICERS [ |
||
| SCHOOLS AND SCHOOL DISTRICT PEACE OFFICERS | ||
| SECTION 2. Subchapter M, Chapter 1701, Occupations Code, is | ||
| amended by adding Section 1701.604 to read as follows: | ||
| Sec. 1701.604. ADDITIONAL TRAINING. (a) The commission by | ||
| rule shall require a law enforcement agency of a political | ||
| subdivision that employs a school resource officer or a school | ||
| district that employs a school district peace officer under Section | ||
| 37.081, Education Code, to make available to the officer a training | ||
| program that meets the requirements of this section. | ||
| (b) The training program must include a curriculum that | ||
| incorporates learning objectives developed by the commission | ||
| regarding discipline management practices or behavior management | ||
| practices that are consistent with Section 37.0021, Education Code, | ||
| and the procedures adopted under that section. | ||
| SECTION 3. The Commission on Law Enforcement Officer | ||
| Standards and Education shall develop the curriculum for the | ||
| training program required to be made available under Section | ||
| 1701.604, Occupations Code, as added by this Act, not later than | ||
| January 1, 2010. | ||
| SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009. | ||
