A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
relating to a study of the proportion of this state's electric |
|
energy that can be generated using renewable energy technology. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. The state energy conservation office shall |
|
conduct a study to determine how not less than 25 percent of this |
|
state's electric energy may be generated by renewable energy |
|
technologies by January 1, 2025. |
|
SECTION 2. The state energy conservation office, in |
|
conducting the study, shall examine costs and efficiencies of |
|
available renewable energy technologies for electric energy |
|
generation and shall recommend legislative and administrative |
|
policy changes necessary to achieve the goal of having not less than |
|
25 percent of this state's electric energy generated by renewable |
|
energy technologies by January 1, 2025. |
|
SECTION 3. The state energy conservation office shall |
|
consult with the Public Utility Commission of Texas in conducting |
|
the study. The commission shall cooperate with the office in |
|
conducting the study. |
|
SECTION 4. The state energy conservation office shall |
|
present the office's report to the governor, the lieutenant |
|
governor, and the speaker of the house of representatives not later |
|
than January 1, 2011. |
|
SECTION 5. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
