A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the appointment of a municipal judge in the City of |
|
|
Lubbock. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 30.00044(b), Government Code, is amended |
|
|
to read as follows: |
|
|
(b) The governing body shall by ordinance appoint a [A] |
|
|
municipal judge [is elected by the qualified voters of the city] for |
|
|
a term of four years. |
|
|
SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act to Section |
|
|
30.00044, Government Code, applies only to a vacancy in the office |
|
|
of municipal judge in the City of Lubbock that occurs on or after |
|
|
the effective date of this Act. A person serving as a municipal |
|
|
judge in the City of Lubbock on the effective date of this Act |
|
|
continues to serve in that office for the remainder of the term to |
|
|
which the person was elected or appointed, unless otherwise removed |
|
|
as provided by law. |
|
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
