A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to designating June as Juneteenth/Frontier Cowboy Month. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter D, Chapter 662, Government Code, is |
|
|
amended by adding Section 662.106 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 662.106. JUNETEENTH/FRONTIER COWBOY MONTH. (a) June |
|
|
is Juneteenth/Frontier Cowboy Month to: |
|
|
(1) honor the fortitude and achievements of Texas |
|
|
cowboys of every ethnic background whose labors contributed |
|
|
immeasurably to the development of this state; and |
|
|
(2) recognize Texas cowboys of every ethnic background |
|
|
as Texas heroes. |
|
|
(b) Juneteenth/Frontier Cowboy Month shall be regularly |
|
|
observed by appropriate celebrations and activities. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
