A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
relating to designating August as American Indian Scouts Month. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter D, Chapter 662, Government Code, is |
|
amended by adding Section 662.106 to read as follows: |
|
Sec. 662.106. AMERICAN INDIAN SCOUTS MONTH. (a) August is |
|
American Indian Scouts Month to recognize as Texas heroes the |
|
Native American scouts who served with the United States Army |
|
during the frontier era of the middle to late 1800s and celebrate |
|
the contributions of those individuals as marking a meaningful |
|
chapter in the saga of this nation. |
|
(b) American Indian Scouts Month shall be regularly |
|
observed by appropriate celebrations and activities. |
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
