A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the definition of electric bicycle for purposes of |
|
|
regulating the use, registration, and licensing of electric |
|
|
bicycles. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 541.201(24), Transportation Code, is |
|
|
amended to read as follows: |
|
|
(24) "Electric bicycle" means a bicycle that: |
|
|
(A) is designed to be propelled by an electric |
|
|
motor, exclusively or in combination with the application of human |
|
|
power; |
|
|
(B) cannot attain a speed of more than 20 miles |
|
|
per hour without the application of human power; and |
|
|
(C) has a motor that weighs less than [does not
|
|
|
exceed a weight of] 100 pounds. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
