A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the requirement that an application or examination for |
|
|
a state-issued license be in English. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Chapter 2005, Government Code, is amended by |
|
|
adding Subchapter C to read as follows: |
|
|
SUBCHAPTER C. LICENSE APPLICATION AND EXAMINATION IN ENGLISH |
|
|
Sec. 2005.101. DEFINITION. In this subchapter, "license" |
|
|
includes the whole or a part of a state agency permit, certificate, |
|
|
approval, registration, or similar form of permission required by |
|
|
law. |
|
|
Sec. 2005.102. APPLICATION AND EXAMINATION IN ENGLISH. |
|
|
Notwithstanding any law other than federal law, including the |
|
|
federal Voting Rights Act (42 U.S.C. Section 1973c et seq.), an |
|
|
application or examination required to obtain or renew a license |
|
|
must be in English. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
