A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the provision of academic tutoring for students at an |
|
|
academically unacceptable public school campus before the campus is |
|
|
reconstituted. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 39.1324, Education Code, is amended by |
|
|
adding Subsection (a-1) to read as follows: |
|
|
(a-1) Notwithstanding Subsection (a), a campus may not be |
|
|
reconstituted in accordance with an order of the commissioner under |
|
|
that subsection unless academic tutoring for students is made |
|
|
available at the campus at state expense during the school year |
|
|
preceding the school year in which the campus is anticipated to open |
|
|
as a reconstituted campus. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act applies only to a campus subject to an |
|
|
order of the commissioner of education under Section 39.1324(a), |
|
|
Education Code, that is issued on or after the effective date of |
|
|
this Act. |
|
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
