A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
relating to a requirement that school districts notify employees |
|
regarding entitlement to leave time in circumstances involving |
|
assault. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Section 22.003, Education Code, is amended by |
|
adding Subsection (c-1) to read as follows: |
|
(c-1) Not later than the last day of the first week of |
|
instruction for the fall semester of each school year, a school |
|
district shall notify each district employee in writing of the |
|
employee's rights under Subsection (b). The notification must |
|
appear in bold-faced type using at least a 14-point font size. The |
|
notification may be provided electronically or on paper. If a |
|
district provides the notification by including it in an electronic |
|
or paper version of an informational teacher handbook or other |
|
informational handbook, the notification must appear on the first |
|
page that immediately follows the table of contents. |

SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2009-2010 |
|
school year. |
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
