A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to creating a recognition day in honor of Charles |
|
|
Bellinger Stewart. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Chapter 662, Government Code, is |
|
|
amended by adding Section 662.056 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 662.056. CHARLES BELLINGER STEWART DAY. (a) February 6 |
|
|
is Charles Bellinger Stewart Day in honor of Charles Bellinger |
|
|
Stewart, Texas statesman and signer of the Texas Declaration of |
|
|
Independence. |
|
|
(b) Charles Bellinger Stewart Day shall be regularly |
|
|
observed by appropriate and patriotic programs in the public |
|
|
schools and other places to properly commemorate his life and |
|
|
achievements and to inspire a greater appreciation for the history |
|
|
of the pioneers and leaders of this state. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
