A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the use of funds awarded by the Cancer Prevention and |
|
|
Research Institute of Texas. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 102.203, Health and Safety Code, is |
|
|
amended by adding Subsection (f) to read as follows: |
|
|
(f) Money awarded under this subchapter may not be used for |
|
|
embryonic or fetal stem cell research. This subsection does not |
|
|
prohibit using money awarded under this subchapter for research |
|
|
using adult stem cells or stem cells obtained from an umbilical |
|
|
cord. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
