A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to monitoring physicians' compliance with continuing |
|
|
medical education requirements. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 156.051(a), Occupations Code, is amended |
|
|
to read as follows: |
|
|
(a) The board by rule shall adopt, monitor, and enforce a |
|
|
reporting program for the continuing medical education of license |
|
|
holders. The board shall adopt and administer rules that: |
|
|
(1) establish the number of hours of continuing |
|
|
medical education the board determines appropriate as a |
|
|
prerequisite to the registration of a license under this subtitle; |
|
|
(2) require at least one-half of the hours of |
|
|
continuing medical education established under Subdivision (1) to |
|
|
be board approved; and |
|
|
(3) adopt a process that: |
|
|
(A) requires [to assess a] license holders to |
|
|
submit documentation to the board verifying compliance with |
|
|
[holder's participation in] continuing medical education |
|
|
requirements; and |
|
|
(B) monitors each license holder's annual |
|
|
compliance with continuing medical education requirements |
|
|
[courses]. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
