A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to the issuance of a master electrician license to certain
  persons performing electrical work in unincorporated areas of the
  state.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  (a) Notwithstanding any provision of Chapter
  1305, Occupations Code, to the contrary, the Texas Department of
  Licensing and Regulation shall issue a master electrician license
  to an applicant who:
               (1)  has owned and operated an electrical business
  continuously since 1988;
               (2)  performs electrical work exclusively in
  unincorporated areas of the state; and
               (3)  pays an application fee prescribed by the
  department.
         (b)  On the request of the executive director of the Texas
  Department of Licensing and Regulation, an applicant for a license
  issued under this section shall provide the executive director with
  detailed information of the electrical work performed by the
  applicant.
         (c)  A person issued a license under this section is subject
  to Chapter 1305, Occupations Code.
         (d)  The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation shall:
               (1)  accept applications for a license issued under
  this section only between September 1, 2009, and September 7, 2009;
  and
               (2)  publish notice of the application period under
  this section on the department's Internet website.
         SECTION 2.  This Act expires September 8, 2009.
         SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2009.
