A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to paid leave time for a peace officer to attend certain |
|
|
education and training programs. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 1701.253, Occupations Code, is amended |
|
|
by adding Subsection (k) to read as follows: |
|
|
(k) A state or local governmental entity that appoints or |
|
|
employs peace officers shall give a peace officer paid leave time to |
|
|
attend the education and training program on de-escalation and |
|
|
crisis intervention techniques under Subsection (j). |
|
|
SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies only |
|
|
to a peace officer who takes an education and training program that |
|
|
occurs on or after the effective date of this Act. |
|
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
