A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to registration requirements for certain motor vehicles. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 502.002, Transportation Code, is amended |
|
|
by amending Subsection (a) and adding Subsection (a-1) to read as |
|
|
follows: |
|
|
(a) The owner of a motor vehicle[, trailer, or semitrailer] |
|
|
shall apply for the registration of the vehicle for: |
|
|
(1) each registration year in which the vehicle is |
|
|
capable of being operated [used or to be used] on a public highway; |
|
|
and |
|
|
(2) if the vehicle is unregistered for a registration |
|
|
year that has begun and that applies to the vehicle and if the |
|
|
vehicle is capable of being operated [used or to be used] on a |
|
|
public highway, the remaining portion of that registration year. |
|
|
(a-1) The owner of a trailer or semitrailer shall apply for |
|
|
the registration of the vehicle for: |
|
|
(1) each registration year in which the vehicle is |
|
|
used or to be used on a public highway; and |
|
|
(2) if the vehicle is unregistered for a registration |
|
|
year that has begun and that applies to the vehicle and if the |
|
|
vehicle is used or to be used on a public highway, the remaining |
|
|
portion of that registration year. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
