A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to Texas History Month curriculum requirements for |
|
|
students in public schools. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 28, Education Code, is |
|
|
amended by adding Section 28.0025 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 28.0025. TEXAS HISTORY MONTH INSTRUCTION. As part of |
|
|
the essential knowledge and skills of the social studies curriculum |
|
|
under Section 28.002(a)(1)(D), the State Board of Education by rule |
|
|
shall establish elements relating to instruction during Texas |
|
|
History Month, as provided by Section 662.102, Government Code. |
|
|
The instructional elements must include: |
|
|
(1) the principles of the Texas Constitution; |
|
|
(2) the traditions of state government; |
|
|
(3) the differences between the Texas Constitution and |
|
|
the United States Constitution; and |
|
|
(4) the historical and cultural effects of the |
|
|
principles of the Texas Constitution and the traditions of state |
|
|
government. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2009. |
